The Medical Device Authority (MDA) Malaysia has released findings from its 2024 online advertisement surveillance, revealing a worrying 65% of medical devices advertised across major e-commerce and social media platforms were not registered with MDA.
The surveillance, conducted proactively by MDA’s Monitoring Unit, covered platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Shopee, Lazada, TikTok, and GrabMart, with a clear goal: to ensure that only registered medical devices are promoted and sold online in Malaysia.

MDA’s 2024 online ad monitoring found that a majority of the medical devices advertised were unregistered, with a significant portion belonging to commonly used general wellness categories:
